David Montgomery and FlexWork Youth Football Camp: Inspiring the Next Generation

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery teamed up with FlexWork to host an inspiring youth football camp this spring, drawing hundreds of aspiring student athletes between the ages of 6 and 16. The camp took place in several Michigan locations, including Bloomfield Hills and Lansing, and offered participants a unique chance to connect directly with a professional athlete making an impact both on and off the field.

Throughout the day, campers cycled through fundamental skill stations, on-field football drills, and friendly flag football scrimmages. Montgomery’s presence electrified the event, as he tossed passes, joined in drills, and shared heartfelt encouragement with each child. The camp also included autograph sessions, motivational talks, and opportunities for young fans to showcase their talent—highlighted by even running their own 40-yard dash.

Organized by FlexWork Sports, the camp focused on not just teaching football skills, but also fostering values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic commitment. Montgomery emphasized the importance of education to every participant, reminding them that “the student part is always first in student athlete because education always comes before sports”.
